Surprise last minute newborn session for Isla

Isla arrived in the world almost completely unexpected.

Having photographed her mum, dad & big brother for an Autumn mini session 2 months beforehand, there was no mention or indication that Jess was pregnant, so it was a huge surprise when I saw her birth announcement on Instagram - like, WHAT??!

She got in touch a few days later to see if it would be possible to squeeze in a newborn session, and it just so happened that I got to meet Isla when she was about 2 weeks old.

It turns out, they hadn’t been keeping the pregnancy under wraps - they only found out a short while before their baby girl was born! And no, she wasn’t premature or especially tiny, just stealthy!!

I think a combination of being a mum of a busy one year old, and the nature of her pregnancy not causing any real obvious physical changes, Jess just didn’t realise Isla was in there until she was almost due.

If you’re skeptical I assure you that yep, cryptic pregnancies are definitely a thing - I worked with a young lady once who had the exact same thing happen to her.

Talk about having to hit the ground running! But Jess is amazingly chilled and always takes everything well within her stride, and seemed to be as relaxed as ever, and in love with her baby girl.

We had a lovely newborn session for just Isla - big brother Ezra was asleep in the car the whole time, and his dad stayed with him. I think we’ll get some family & siblings photos down the road, when it’s easier.

It’s unusual for me to only have baby to photograph, with no family shots, and it was lovely catching up with Jess, and enjoying quiet moments just soaking up her beautiful daughter.
