Tips for styling a Spring Photo Shoot in Cornwall

Spring is here!

It might still be a bit chilly in Cornwall but Spring is right around the corner! Which means it’s a great time to schedule family photos! The daffodils have been blooming for a while, and the magnolias are putting on a magnificent show already. Leaves are budding, and blossoms are blooming.

Winter is finally over. Woohoo!!

Styling for your spring session

If you’re contemplating a photoshoot, or have booked one, you’ll be wondering what everyone should wear for your session.

We are not out of the woods yet - gloriously warm days can be interwoven with a cold breeze. The weather is still going to be unpredictable and you’ll need to factor in layers.

I’ll share my top 3 tips to consider plus my favourite combinations for this Spring!

01. Location consideration

Where will your session be? At the beach or countryside, or at a garden? The woods? In town? It’s always a good idea to think about what the colours surrounding you are likely to be when choosing your colours for clothes.

Making that bit of effort to coordinate with the setting will look very put together and sophisticated!

02. Home decor

Think about the colours in your home. If you’re looking to update wall art in a certain room or have a space in mind, take your home decor colour scheme into consideration when planning outfits for your family photoshoot.

If your space is full of neutrals and greys, then avoid bright pink in your outfit choice!

03. Earth tones

Consider your family’s skin tones. Do you suit certain colours? I always advise sticking to muted or earthy tones which suit most skin types, and also blends well whatever the location.

The most important thing is to wear what you love, rather than something out of character and uncomfortable. Saying that, don’t just wear your baggy jeans and t-shirt because they’re comfortable. It’s great to wear something you don’t usually, especially if it makes you feel gorgeous. Mums, dresses are always a great choice.

It’s totally okay to have some colour and texture in your outfits. People often think they all have to match, or wear blue & white to the beach.

I think it’s so much more interesting to have a palette of at least 3 colours and for one of the colours to be something a little unexpected!

Here are some of my favourite Spring palettes to consider for your family photos this year:

This is a great way to start thinking about the colours you wear and intentionally selecting shades that will work together not only with the landscape but with each other.
